World Cup courses today are steep, technical monsters with constantly changing conditions. The pros needed a mid-spike tyre that could handle dry, loose and ridden corners as well as a little mud. The Shorty is such a tyre. A large volume double ply carcass makes it more versatile than the Maxxis WetScream mud tyre. Large, high and slightly staggered side studs penetrate loose ground and ensure predictable navigation of bends at the speed of light. The centre on the tyre features alternating rectangular and square knobs, which offer great grip during braking as well as excellent self-cleaning.
Tubeless tyres have many advantages: you can ride with less air pressure, giving better traction and reducing rolling resistance. And where there is no inner tube, the risk of a flat also decreases. Maxxis TR tyres are better prepared for mounting with sealing milk than other tubeless ready tyres. The bead of the Maxxis TR tyres is completely covered with a rubber layer, just like a real UST tubeless tyre. This means that the tubeless mounting of all rims with standard dimensions is already successful with the first inflation and with little liquid. Also normal Maxxis MTB tires can be mounted like tyres of other manufacturers tubeless with sealant, because the carcass fabric is very dense. Officially approved for tubeless mounting and guaranteed by Maxxis, only the new Maxxis TR models are available. Setting up other models tubeless is at your own risk.
Two different rubber compounds are processed into a tread strip. Maxxis plans the arrangement of the compounds according to the desired properties of the tyres.
Maxxis is a well-known 3C downhill mix that many of the best downhillers have trusted for years and is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and cushioning for unparalleled downhill traction.
Doubledown tyres are constructed like the Maxxis Downhill tyres. Two carcass plies reinforced with a butyl insert in the side wall. Two 120 TPI (instead of 60 TPI) carcass plies and aramid bead make them considerably lighter than downhill tyres. They are much more stable and robust than the Maxxis TR + EXO tyres and therefore ideal for hard Enduro courses.
The Wide Trail construction optimises the tread layout and tyre shape on today's modern wider rims. Traditional tires are designed for narrow rims and are too angular on wide rims for optimal performance. All Maxxis WT tyres are optimised for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but function perfectly on all rims with an inner diameter between 30 and 39 mm.
